Sun sets over The Shed

My first attempt at a water-colour painting since, , elementary school probably.

Composition sketched from a photo, and then painted on a Fabriano water-colour pad (cold press, 25% cotton, 140lbs, 9 1/2" x 12 1/2") using a #12 round and #4 round brushes with Windsor and Newton Artists' tube colours - Yellow Ochre, Permanent Rose, and Prussian Blue.

Originally, i was planning to try to get closer to the photo with regards to contrast and colour which would have made most of the foreground a silhouette, but I changed my mind after I started layering in the paint on the trees and shed and decided to use this as an experiment in colour mixing. Overall, I think it probably lacks too much contrast and I could have deepened the colour of the mid-ground trees to set them off better from the sky.

Added some outlines with Black Velvet waterproof India Ink and a small point dip pen. Should have taken some practice strokes on a scrap sheet of paper to get the feel of a dip pen again as a lot of the lines (especially in the windows) suffer from sloppiness.

It took me most of a day, and was a fun detour from my usual media.
